In a world that seems to be facing even bigger barriers to tackling climate and ecological breakdown, it can feel overwhelming and scary to look to the future. A feeling that’s now dubbed ‘eco-anxiety’.
One of the best ways we can tackle this stress is to take action. By actively doing something in the community, or changing things up in our everyday lives, we can feel safe in the knowledge that, no matter what’s happening at a government, industry or a global level, every action counts. By acting and working together, we can make bigger changes than we realise.
And that’s what we’re doing right here at Sustainable Penzance. Our mission is to help people feel empowered by building a community for the future; one that is resilient, works for everyone and that protects and replenishes the beautiful environment that supports us.
So, how you can get involved and support our work here at Sustainable PZ? From volunteering on the ground, to supporting us financially or helping to spread the word, there’s plenty for everyone.
Volunteer with Sustainable PZ
Here at Sustainable PZ, we’re on the hunt for volunteers to help us in a number of areas. Whether you enjoy chatting to people face-to-face, or you love organising events, we need all the help we can get.
Key skills we’re looking for include:
- Event planning
- Event hosting/support
- Admin support
- Digital/website support
- Community liaison
- Fundraising – in the community and also putting in applications
We could go on! Essentially, we need people from all walks of life to help us build a representative vision of a more resilient and sustainable community in Penzance. Attend one of our local events
If you aren’t able to volunteer at the moment, why not stop in to one of our events? Join our Winter Film Nights, or keep your eyes peeled for our Plastic Free Christmas wrap service. We’re also hosting more guided walks for the Penzance Greenways project, to discover new ways to get around town and enjoy nature through our ancient pathways and green spaces. Then there’s our Plastic Free PZ street and beach cleans and workshops. Plenty for all ages. If you’re school is interested in Captain Banplastic workshops drop us a line on plasticfreepz@gmail.com

Fundraise or donate
We’re already building a thriving community of people who are invested in helping Penzance be more resilient for the future, and we’re so excited to see our family, friends and neighbours taking action.
We your help so we can continue to build the movement. We rely on volunteers and donations to enable us to raise awareness, deliver projects on the ground and work with local decision-makers and other organisations to push for change.
Money raised by Sustainable PZ is pumped straight back into delivering projects and initiatives that move the town towards a more sustainable and resilient future. One that works better for people, the town and the planet.

One of our goals at Sustainable PZ was to help people take direct action from home, which is why we created the Personal Action Plan. And the more people that download and use it, the more we will collectively see the impact of our work across Penzance.
This collaborative action is the cornerstone of our mission here at Sustainable PZ, and, by following our guide, you’re supporting us in getting ever closer to that shared vision, one step at a time.
After all, we CAN do something – and it starts right now in our own homes. How? With a plan that’s all about helping us to start reducing our eco-impact and save money at the same time.
