RESCHEDULED: Tuesday 22nd Feb at 11am. Come and get involved with this awesome half term activity.

Looking after our environment is one of the best ways we can support our local community, and, as we near Valentine’s Day, Penzance residents are being asked to do just that.

How? With our first beach clean of the year! It’s your chance to do something amazing by showing up at Long Rock this weekend to do your bit for the environment, as part of the Show the Love campaign.

The movement, driven by the Climate Coalition, takes place every year in February and aims to highlight how people from all walks of life are helping to tackle climate change together, however big or small.

This year, our local event, hosted by our Plastic Free Penzance organisers and volunteers, will see troops gather at Long Rock Car Park Tuesday 22nd Feb at 11am The aim is to clean the coast of plastic pollution and waste from Long Rock to Eastern Green, to stop it from washing into the ocean.

As well as supporting Show the Love, the beach clean will also support and form part of the Surfers Against Sewage beach clean movement, which enables volunteers from all ages and backgrounds to help protect the ocean.

Kit will be provided for free – but feel free to bring your own gloves, bags and antibac gel if you’d prefer. No pre-sign up is required, but remember that children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.

What is ‘Show the Love’?

Since 2015, ‘Show the Love’ has inspired the UK to use the power of green hearts to ask politicians to help tackle the climate crisis.

Whether it starts at home or with a community group, the green heart can be used as a symbol when asking your local MP to drive change towards protecting the climate.

If you want to find out how you can get involved, download the Climate Coalition action pack.
