Following the recent success of Penzance Greenways, which saw the town get a new, illustrated map to connect us all to ancient footpaths and greenspaces, we’re excited to share a Newlyn version of the project, with a twist.

What will Newlyn Greenways include?

Similarly to Penzance Greenways, Newlyn Greenways will seek to encourage active travel, helping people connect to nature and leave their cars at home.

With a number of shorter routes that lead into the centre of Newlyn from various corners of the port, it’s all about making our day-to-day lives more planet friendly, as well as giving us the chance of reaping the mental health benefits of spending more time in natural spaces.

While these routes will each take in Newlyn’s green spaces and ancient footpaths in a similar way to Penzance Greenways, this time, the shorter routes will all also link up to make one big route that will help people explore Newlyn and connect better to the place they live.

With at least three routes planned to head out of the port as well, the plan is to help locals make the most of the countryside and coast surrounding this historic fishing town.

Plus, for those who work in or regularly visit Penzance and walk the Prom from Newlyn, one of the routes will offer an alternative route, taking in footpaths and three green spaces along the way.

Will there be guided walks and workshops?

Yes! Following June’s launch, our Sustainable PZ team members will be shouting about the different walks and workshops you can join to help us get Newlyn Greenways off the ground.

The guided walks will include a stroll on some of the new routes with the team, while our workshops will be focused on helping you create your own maps to help you navigate your regular local journeys in an active way.

How will I access it?

This illustrated map, brainchild of Harriet Harrow, will be available in numerous hubs, cafes, and shops around Newlyn (more to come on that, soon).

We’re also creating written guides to take along, as well as audio guides to listen to as you walk and an online map where you can orientate while out and about. This will include where to hop on a Beryl Bike or get the bus back if you’ve had enough – plus, you’ll be able to check out our nifty pins where you can refill your water bottle!
