The impacts of climate change are already being felt around the world – including on our very own doorstep, right here in the UK.
From increased biodiversity loss to lowering food security and national resilience, the climate and nature crisis is now affecting every part of British life.
And, on 27th November 2025, 10 of the UK’s leading experts held the National Emergency Briefing on climate and nature, addressing the UK government on those serious impacts and what it could mean for our future generations.
Critical points highlighted by experts included:
- Prof Paul Behrens, University of Oxford (Food Security):Our current food system is eroding the very foundations of our security, destroying biodiversity habitats, and species decline. 80% of UK farmers already report climate-related impacts, and one-third of UK food price inflation is climate-driven. Changes to diet and food-systems could lower emissions and reduce NHS costs.
- Prof Hugh Montgomery OBE, University College London (National Health Impacts):Climate change is already a health emergency. “The risk is certain; the hazard is catastrophic – this crisis is about survival, not of future generations, but of my son who was 20 last Thursday.”
- Lt Gen Richard Nugee CBE, (National Security):Climate change is a threat multiplier, increasing instability, resource conflicts and people displacement. Tackling it is central to our national resilience. UK institutions risk being overwhelmed unless we act at the scale of the threat.
Despite the evidence and call to reset the national conversation with direct action from the top, media coverage was poor – and the message clearly didn’t get through to the 1,200 politicians and industry leaders in attendance.
That’s why we need YOU.
Local authorities sit at the frontline of resilience, planning, transport, nature recovery and community wellbeing. Help us get the message far and wide by sending a letter to our leaders at Cornwall Council, urging them to take this matter seriously.

- Do not return to business as usual.
- Recognise the shared threat and act with courage.
- Lead with honesty and purpose.
